I love a well written M/M story that includes action, paranormal versus reality, and most of all....sensually beautiful and loving acts between the two main characters, Hiro and Sable. This book is Red Hot in sensuality and not for the faint hearted. There were a few times I felt my face burning up and melting away with the passion between Hiro and Sable. The sexuality was truly presented in a way that the sheer beauty of M/M love simply made me want to cry. Very touching. Both men have had hurt and loss, but their love surmounts all that came before and gives each of them the sense of finding home at last. I loved the storyline and cannot wait for the future books in this new series. The combined work in writing this book was sincerely a pleasure to read. Outstanding new series - 2 hot guys saving 2 realities!
This is a great collaboration of two authors who combined sleuthing through two realities, magic, humor, hot sex and a HEA with a smooth lead in to a new series. Hiro ("Hero") is a 40 year old detective who is hot, stubborn, and the best in Everlight's police department while Sable is a 20-25 looking (240 yo) imperial mage who is the guardian of a portal between Everlight City and Elysium. Murder is happening in Elysium (unheard of) and Everlight City, Sable and Hiro must discover who did it, you get a name in the beginning but the evidence must convict this person.
Throughout the story the heroes attraction and lust toward each other is off the wall but they must solve this before either one is killed or discredited. The underlying story is human trafficking which is prevalent in our society but rarely addressed, it seems like if it's not talked about then it's not really there (Victorian much?).
The ending is a seamless transition to the next story in this series which I'm looking forward to. I received an ARC to give an honest review but after reading this story I purchased it to add to my collection of best stories to re-read. ~ SE

5 Stars aren't enough!
Honestly, I cannot give a Kris Michaels book a bad review. I don't think she can even do mediocre, let alone awful and this collaboration with Patricia Knight just enforces my opinion. As usual when I ARC a fantastic book like this, I have to purchase it to ensure that I do my part in supporting the author/s. I read for the story only and I feel that, even if a person is not into reading sci-fi/fantasy, crime drama, or m/m, this story will leave you fully satisfied and wanting more.
This book grabbed my attention from the minute Hiro is introduced and kept totally absorbed until I finished it. The writing and editing are great. For those worried that it is going to be a a sci-fi/fantasy story and not to their liking, I will say that it reads like a crime drama (similar to A Heart's Desire) with a touch of magic. The story flows really well and it is not disjointed like some collaborations. The authors did an awesome job building the dimensions for this book that it was like stepping into Everlight and Elysium.
The whole cast of characters really make this story come alive (the banter in the police station and the quibbling in the council chambers were fantastic). Even the lowly desk sergeant at the police station and the doorman/receptionist at the Elysium Embarcadero are given substance with just the few lines and scenes in with they are a part. ~ Bookworm555

Madeline Iva grew up in a family of women who regularly traded brown grocery bags full of all kinds of romance. As a way of enduring the incivilities of high school, Madeline switched to reading elegant and refined regency romances, which is how she developed her fanatical love for Georgette Heyer. As an adult, Madeline discovered erotic romance and began writing them in 2010.
Now Madeline writes about smart, outspoken women, the brooding heroes who are drawn to them, and the feisty sex that follows. She writes paranormal, fantasy, and contemporary erotic romance—and sometimes a blend of all three.
Madeline’s first story “Sexsomnia” is included in THE LADY SMUT BOOK OF DARK DESIRES, published by Harper Impulse in 2014. Madeline also started Love Fest, a day of romance panels at Virginia Festival of the Book. After watching too many seasons of the Bachelor, I’m also drawn to exploring how women go after the men they want. Often these same women are a little squirmier when it comes to being on the receiving end of love. I relish those uncomfortable moments where an independent, strong woman has to accept someone looking after her for a change.
Finally, is there anything better than the physical bond great sex can bring? When a couple starts feeling like two parts of a whole, when they’re intellectual and intimate emotional partners—it’s perfection.
